It’s Just A Couch

Couch

Yesterday I came across a great post on Zen Habits titled Love Life, Not Stuff. After a recent burglary at my home, this last paragraph really had impact on me:

Realize that life, not stuff, is what matters. Objects are just objects — if you lose them, if they get stolen or destroyed … it’s not a big deal. They’re just objects — not your life. Your life is the series of moments that is steaming through your consciousness right now, and how you use those moments and what you fill them with is what truly matters, not what you fill your home with. At the end of this short journey, you’ll look back and remember your experiences, the people you loved and who loved you back, the things you did and didn’t do. Not the stuff you had.

This is why travel is so important. It has way more impact on your life than the immediate comforts of new tech and cozier items in the house.

My trip to Indonesia in 2002 feels like yesterday. I still talk about it with friends and we still laugh at moments from the adventure.

Every time we go away we find ourselves saying “Wow, I can’t believe it’s been that long since I last got away from my routine”.

The Goal

I’m 26 now, the goal is, by the time I’m 30, to get my passive income to where I can travel and surf around the world for 2 years while working mobile. 2014 happens to be the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, maybe watching Bafana abroad could be the ultimate start to this adventure!

As Lester Burnham said: “IT’S JUST A COUCH!”

From next week I’m going to start cleaning out my unnecessary ‘stuff’ and minimalizing life.

It’s actually very rude to just delete comments rather than respond to the argument put forward. Just because you might not agree with the opinion expressed doesn’t mean that the person who has taken the time to comment on your site deserves to be silenced, censored or otherwise thwarted by your excessively authoritive webmastery.
