An Insight Into The One Page Love Redesign
In this post we’re going to look at the redesign of our project One Page Love and the reasons behind it all.
First off, why redesign?
One Page Love’s ideals are to support minimalism. Many people mail us saying it would be great if our site was One Page. This is possible but we feel we can provide a much better service for designers looking for one page inspiration if it’s not.
We also want to encourage user interaction, not a smelly forum or *another* social network, but through comments on submissions with construction feedback. We feel One Page Lovers have similar tastes and we know they’d appreciate words on the launch of their latest One Page creation.
Lastly, and we’re not going to lie, we want to increase page impressions to gain more revenue. We like premium roast just the same as you do:) Right now the site just lists the submissions, you click the pretty ones and you’re gone. We’re going to improve on this.
To recap on why
- Provide better browsing for inspiration
- Encourage a community feel
- Increase impressions
New Features
These are all in the works so far:
Blog
Yup, you ask a blog on what? Roundups like ‘The best One Page sites of the month’, tutorials like ‘Alternatives to the ordinary lightbox picture gallery’ and other One Page creating resources, interviews and more.
Commenting
One Page Love will always write the first comment on every listed submission. We’ll start the discussion and state why we listed it. Hopefully users will give their constructive feedback and the designer can give his replies and reasoning.
Frequency and Quality
It’s been a tough decision but we have decided to only start listing the best submissions that offer mainly smart designs and unique features for the One Page Love community to get inspired from. This would mean most probably a really quality site listed once a day.
Flagging
When searching sometimes we come across redesigns that are no longer one page:( Users can now flag these and send a message to us to remove it with one click.
This also applies to websites being in the wrong category like ‘Launching Soon Websites‘ now full One Page websites.
Design
We are losing the dark background! Below is a snippet of the new (incomplete) new header design:

The new header, deadspace on right will go
Themes
We’re adding a section to the main navigation for “Themes”. This simply links to the Themes Category but definitely giving it more of a feature and plan to add more items in this category.
Tags
After analyzing search terms entered over the past year a lot of users are searching occupations like dentist, photographer, message therapist etc. We will be adding these tags in the future to help improve search results for designers getting inspiration for sites matching their client industry.

Great to read you’re progressing!
Just a small question: will there be an option to “report” an entry if someone detects the site in question has changed?
Like: from “comming soon” to a full blog…
A “Report this” option seems logic, if possible! ;)

Hi
You might have missed our second last point, this is what we refer to as ‘flagging’ and will definitely be implemented for the new launch.

Oops, indeed… my fault. Sorry for having overseen that. Well, guess I’ll be a happy visitor then. Thank’s for working on such a great project btw. LOL, I guess I might just be forced to create a one page web design after all.

Is it just me or is it ironic that this site, One Page Love, is more than one page?
Love the work, very addictive and inspiring

It’s not just you. Actually, I’ve seen some WordPress-powered one-pagers come up lately that actually look good. But I guess we should request that “feature” later on… ;)
